FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: August 31, 2001 Maureen Peratino at (202) 418- 0506 RULES ADOPTED FOR THE COMMISSION REGISTRATION SYSTEM AND FCC REGISTRATION NUMBER Washington, DC – Today the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a Report and Order modifying its rules to require entities doing business with the FCC, effective December 3, 2001, to provide an FCC Registration Number (FRN) with any filings requiring a taxpayer identification number. The FRN is a unique entity identifying number that may be obtained over the Internet through the Commission Registration System (CORES) at www. fcc. gov/ omd. The FRN will be used by all Commission financial, authorization of service, and enforcement systems. CORES will be a central standard repository for basic regulatee and licensee information. The FRN will help the Commission more effectively collect regulatory and application fees; track enforcement of fines and forfeitures; monitor and collect penalties; and manage the grant of waivers and exemptions.
