C. – Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released its annual Telecommunications Provider Locator report. This report provides a summary of firms in the United States that provide interstate telecommunications. The report lists the 5,679 companies, up from 4,822 the year before, that provided interstate telecommunications services in 2000, and provides contact information for each company. It also identifies whether the company reported revenue for local, wireless, payphone, operator and prepaid calling card, or other toll services, and whether it contributed to support universal service. This report was compiled using information from FCC Form 499- A Telecommunications Reporting Worksheets filed by telecommunications service providers. The filed worksheets are treated as proprietary and therefore are not available to the public. The report is available for reference in the FCC's Reference Information Center, Courtyard Level, 445 12th Street, S. W., Washington, D. C. 20554.
