FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: News Media Contact: May 20, 2002 Meribeth McCarrick at (202) 418- 0654 e- mail: mmccarri@ fcc. gov WIRELESS BUREAU ANNOUNCES POLICY DIVISION STAFF CHANGES Barry Ohlson Named Division Chief Blaise Scinto Named Senior Deputy Division Chief Jared Carlson Named Deputy Division Chief Washington, DC – Thomas Sugrue, Chief of the FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (Bureau), has announced the following staff changes in the Bureau’s Policy Division: Barry Ohlson Named Division Chief Barry Ohlson has been named Chief of the Bureau’s Policy Division. Most recently Ohlson served as a Legal Advisor in the Bureau’s Office of the Bureau Chief. In that position he advised the Bureau Chief and Deputies on various wireless regulatory issues, including matters before the Bureau’s Public Safety and Private Wireless Division. During that time Ohlson also served for three months as acting Division Chief of the Public Safety and Private Wireless Division. Prior to joining the Commission he was Senior Director of Federal Regulatory Affairs at Winstar Communications, Inc. In that position, Ohlson was responsible for spectrum and related matters impacting the company before the Commission, Congress and the International Telecommunications Union. Prior to working at Winstar, he was an Associate at McDermott, Will & Emery and an Associate at Keller and Heckman. Ohlson holds a J. D. from George Washington University and a B. A. from the College of William and Mary. Blaise Scinto Named Senior Deputy Division Chief Blaise Scinto has been named Senior Deputy Division Chief of the Policy Division, where she has served as a Deputy Division Chief since January 2000. In that position she has been primarily responsible for overseeing a wide variety of issues including E911 and spectrum matters. Prior to joining the Bureau’s Policy Division she was a Deputy Chief of the Network Services Division of the FCC's Common Carrier Bureau. Scinto also served as Legal Counsel to the Chief of the Common Carrier Bureau under three successive Bureau Chiefs. Scinto joined the Commission in 1995 as an attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Policy and Program Planning Division. Before joining the FCC, she was an Associate with the Washington office of Winston & Strawn. Scinto holds a J. D. and B. A in history from the University of Virginia. 1 Jared Carlson Named Deputy Division Chief Jared Carlson has been named a Deputy Division Chief of the Policy Division. Before joining the Bureau Carlson served as a Legal Counsel to the Common Carrier Bureau Chief. During that time he advised the Common Carrier Bureau Chief on issues before that Bureau’s Network Services, Policy and Program Planning, Accounting Safeguards, and Accounting Policy Divisions. Prior to that position Carlson worked in the Network Services Division of the Common Carrier Bureau. He worked primarily on numbering issues, and was the Alternate Designated Federal Official for the North American Numbering Council. Before joining the FCC, Carlson was Associate at Crowe & Dunlevy, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Carlson holds a J. D. from the College of William and Mary and a B.
