This Erratum corrects errors in the Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making in this proceeding, FCC 02- 102, released April 9, 2002. 2. In paragraph 36, the first sentence is corrected to read as follows: We agree with the Task Force that we should require a safety watch by all vessels voluntarily fitted with MF/ HF- DSC and INMARSAT A, B, and C systems. 3. In paragraph 47, the last sentence of footnote 124 is corrected to read as follows: We also note, however, that the RTCM is working on maritime survivor locating device standards that may eventually be incorporated into our Rules, and we further clarify that nothing herein is intended either to enlarge the relief granted in those earlier waiver decisions or to preclude modification or termination of the waivers at some later time if such action is justified by changed circumstances, such as the RTCM’s adoption of standards. 4. In paragraph 48, the third sentence is corrected to read as follows (with existing footnote 127 at the end of the sentence unchanged): In the Notice, the Commission proposed to amend this Section to require only a summary of distress communications heard, and urgency communications affecting the station’s own ship. 5. In paragraph 64, the reference to “4215 MHz” is corrected to read “4125 kHz.” 6. In Appendix B, an additional amendment to the rules is inserted in the appropriate numerical order as follows: Section 80.147 is amended to read as follows: § 80.147 Watch on 2182 kHz. Ship stations must maintain a watch on 2182 kHz as prescribed by § 80.304. 8. In Appendix B, the amendment to Section 80. 203, and the amendatory language pertaining thereto, is corrected to read as follows: Section 80.203 is amended by removing and reserving paragraph (e), revising paragraph (g), and adding a new paragraph (o) to read as follows: * * * * * (e) Reserved. * * * * * (g) Manufacturers of ship earth station transmitters intended for use in the INMARSAT space segment must comply with the verification procedures given in part 2 of this chapter. Such equipment must be verified in accordance with the technical requirements provided by INMARSAT and must be type approved by INMARSAT for use in the INMARSAT space segment. The ship earth station input/ output parameters, the data obtained when the equipment is integrated in system configuration and the pertinent method of test procedures that are used for type approval of the station model which are essential for the compatible operation of that station in the INMARSAT space segment must be disclosed by the manufacturer upon request of the FCC. Witnessing of the type approval tests and the disclosure of the ship earth station equipment design or any other information of a proprietary nature will be at the discretion of the ship earth station manufacturer. * * * * * (o) Existing equipment that does not comply with the rules in this subpart but was properly authorized as compliant with the rules in effect at the time of its authorization, and remains compliant with the rules in effect at the time of its authorization, may continue to be installed until February 1, 2003. 9. In Appendix B, Section 80. 851 is corrected to read as follows: The radiotelephone requirements of this subpart are applicable to all compulsory ships which are not required to comply with Subpart W in total or in part because they have received an exemption from all or some of the Subpart W provisions. 10. In Appendix B, Section 80. 905( a)( 3)( vii) is corrected to read as follows: (vii) Participate in the AMVER system while engaged on any voyage where the vessel is navigated in the open sea for more than 24 hours. In Appendix B, Section 80. 905( d) is corrected to read as follows: (d) A VHF- DSC radiotelephone installation or a remote unit must be located at each steering station except those auxiliary steering stations which are used only during brief periods for docking or for close- in maneuvering. A single portable VHF- DSC radiotelephone set meets the requirements of this paragraph if adequate permanent mounting arrangements with suitable power provision and antenna feed are installed at each operator steering station. Additionally, for vessels of more than 100 gross tons, the radiotelephone installation must be located at the level of the main wheelhouse or at least one deck above the vessel's main deck. 13. These errors will be corrected before publication in the Federal Register. 14. This action is taken under delegated authority pursuant to Sections 0.131 and 0.331 of the Commission’s Rules, 47 C. F.
