SCRIME NAMED CHIEF OF POLICY AND RULES DIVISION IN THE OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY Washington, DC – Edmond J. Thomas, Chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has named Alan J. Scrime Chief of OET’s Policy and Rules Division (PRD). PRD is responsible for promulgating rules pertaining to the allocation of electromagnetic spectrum and technical issues pertaining to radio equipment and electronic devices. The Division also handles the coordination of all spectrum issues with the Federal Government on behalf of the Commission. “I am very pleased to have Alan join me in OET,” remarked Mr. Thomas. “His unique combination of talents will be a strong asset to the Commission. He combines a technical engineering background in advanced telecommunications technology development with management expertise. His combination of skills will enable him to provide the Commission with timely, balanced, and objective presentations of cutting- edge communications issues.” Mr. Scrime has over 35 years of experience in managing the development and manufacturing of telecommunications systems and technology. Prior to joining the FCC, Mr. Scrime served as Executive Vice President of Everest Broadband Networks, a Multi- tenant Broadband Service Provider. Mr. Scrime has also held several management positions with Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, Bell Laboratories, and AT& T. Geraldine Matise will continue to serve as Deputy Chief of PRD. Ms. Matise has served as the Acting Chief over the past year. During this time, the Division has been responsible for key Commission proceedings in the areas of Advanced Wireless Communications Services, Implementation of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, Authorization of Ultra- wideband Devices and Spread Spectrum Technology, and Authorization of the Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service. “Geri has done an outstanding job in shepherding some of the most difficult items ever to come out of OET” remarked Mr. Thomas, “Both Alan and I look forward to her continued valuable contributions in leading the Division.” - FCC - 1
