Abernathy announced today that she has promoted her Legal Advisor, Matthew Brill, to the position of Senior Legal Advisor. Abernathy said, “Matt has done a terrific job over the last year and a half as my wireline advisor, and I am pleased to assign him additional responsibilities as Senior Advisor. He has been a tremendous asset since I came to the Commission and I fully expect the same in the future.” Brill will also continue to handle wireline and enforcement issues. He can be reached at 202- 418- 2532. Commissioner Abernathy also announced the addition of a new advisor to her staff. Carolyn Groves, a partner at the law firm Wilkinson Barker Knauer, joins the office as Senior Counsel for wireless and international issues, starting December 9. “Carolyn is a talented lawyer and has a great deal of expertise on wireless policy issues,” Abernathy stated. Groves has been at Wilkinson since 1992. Prior to joining the firm she clerked at the FCC and on the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Finance. Groves graduated cum laude from the University of Scranton and received her J. D. from Catholic University, where she was a member of the Communications Law Institute and an Associate Editor of the Catholic University Law Review. Commissioner Abernathy also saluted John Branscome, an attorney detailed from the Commercial Wireless Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, who has advised the Commissioner on wireless and international issues on an interim basis. “John has made outstanding contributions to my office and I am delighted to have his assistance a while longer,” Abernathy said.
