FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: December 11, 2002 Robin Pence at (202) 418- 0505 CHANGES ON FCC SPECTRUM POLICY TASK FORCE ANNOUNCED Dr. Paul Kolodzy to leave FCC and join faculty of Stevens Institute of Technology Washington, DC – Chairman Michael K. Powell announced today that Dr. Paul Kolodzy, Director of the Spectrum Policy Task Force and Senior Spectrum Policy Advisor, will be leaving the Commission this week to join the faculty of the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, where Dr. Kolodzy has been appointed Director of the Center for Wireless Network Security and Professor in the School of Engineering and Technology Management. Chairman Powell remarked, “I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for Dr. Kolodzy’s leadership at the helm of the Spectrum Policy Task Force. In the short nine months since he came to the Commission, Paul and the Task Force have done a phenomenal job delivering on their obligations to study and recommend important changes to spectrum policy. Our spectrum policy reform effort is one of our most important initiatives and I am very pleased with the progress of the Task Force. I see great promise for positive developments in this area.” Chairman Powell also praised Lauren Van Wazer, Deputy Director of the Spectrum Policy Task Force, for her tireless efforts that were instrumental in getting the work of the Task Force accomplished. Ms. Van Wazer will return to her duties as Special Counsel to the Chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology. With Dr. Kolodzy leaving the Commission, Peter Tenhula, currently Co- Director, will become the Director of the Spectrum Policy Task Force. Fred Thomas, Chief of the Spectrum Coordination Branch in the Office of Engineering and Technology, will become a Deputy Director of the Task Force. Mr. Thomas will retain his existing responsibilities in OET, including his role as FCC liaison to the Interdepartment Radio Advisory Committee (IRAC). Mary McManus, Senior Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, will be Special Counsel on the Task Force.
