 STATEMENT  OF  FCC  CHAIRMAN  MICHAEL  K.  POWELL  ON  CHANGES  TO  THE  FEDERAL  MEMBERSHIP  OF  THE 
 FEDERAL-  STATE  JOINT  BOARD  ON  UNIVERSAL  SERVICE 
 Washington,  D.  C.—  Michael  K.  Powell,  chairman  of  the  Federal  Communications  Commission  (FCC),  today  announced  the  appointment  of  Commissioner  Jonathan  S.  Adelstein 
 to  the  Federal-  State  Joint  Board  on  Universal  Service  (Joint  Board). 
 “I  am  pleased  that  Commissioner  Adelstein  has  accepted  appointment  to  the  Joint  Board.  I  know  that  the  Joint  Board  will  benefit  from  his  insights  and  expertise  in  the  coming  year  as  it 
 works  to  ensure  that  all  Americans  have  access  to  telecommunications  service  at  affordable  rates. 
 “Commissioner  Copps  has  been  a  valued  member  of  the  Joint  Board  since  2001.  I  wish  to  thank  him  for  his  contributions  to  this  important  forum  and  look  forward  to  continuing  to  work 
 with  Commissioner  Copps  to  preserve  and  advance  universal  service.” 
 The  Federal-  State  Joint  Board  on  Universal  Service  was  established  by  the  FCC  in  1996  to  advise  the  Commission  on  matters  related  to  universal  service.
