C. – Today, William Maher, Bureau Chief of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Wireline Competition Bureau, made the following personnel announcements. Julie Veach has been named Assistant Chief of the Competition Policy Division. Ms. Veach has been an Attorney Advisor for the Competition Policy Division since January 2001. She has served as a key team leader on local competition rulemakings. Ms. Veach previously led teams reviewing Bell Operating Company section 271 applications. Before joining the FCC, Ms. Veach was an associate in the telecommunications group of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. After graduating from law school, she clerked for the Honorable Michael S. Kanne of the United States Court of Appeals for the 7 th Circuit. Ms. Veach received her J. D., magna cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law, where she was Senior Managing Editor of the Indiana Law Journal. Ms. Veach received a B. A. from Purdue University. Jeremy Miller has been named Acting Assistant Chief of the Competition Policy Division for Ms. Veach, who will be on parental leave until the fall. Mr. Miller has been an Attorney Advisor for the Competition Policy Division since March 2001. He also is an experienced team leader on local competition rulemakings, and has worked on several section 271 applications. Mr. Miller came to the FCC from Hogan & Hartson LLP, where he specialized in telecommunications law. Before entering private practice, Mr. Miller clerked for the Honorable Charles R. Richey of the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Miller received his J. D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law, where he was an Associate Editor of the Michigan Law Review.
