POWELL ON THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW SATELLITE LICENSING PROCEDURES Washington, DC –I am pleased to report the successful implementation of the Commission’s new satellite licensing rules which went into effect this week. One of my core priorities as chairman has been to modernize the agency – to make the FCC smarter and faster. By re- tooling our satellite licensing processes for the 21 st century, we provide for prompt licensing, allow entrepreneurs to test their ideas in the marketplace, and maintain America’s satellite leadership. Prompt licensing also enhances the ability of the market to encourage competition both within the satellite industry and across technologies. Finally, I'd like to acknowledge the International Bureau's satellite policy team, whose talent, creativity and dedication made these procedures possible. -FCC- 1
