Balmoris@ fcc. gov FCC WIRELINE COMPETITION BUREAU ANNOUNCES DEPUTY CHIEF AND ASSISTANT CHIEF OF THE COMPETITION POLICY DIVISION Washington, D. C. – Today, William Maher, Bureau Chief of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Wireline Competition Bureau, made the following personnel promotions: William Dever promoted to Deputy Chief of the Competition Policy Division. Mr. Dever joined the Competition Policy Division in March 1998, and has served as Assistant Division Chief since January 2001. Mr. Dever has worked as a team leader or manager on numerous section 271 applications, section 214 applications for mergers and reorganizations of telecommunications carriers, and various local competition rulemaking proceedings. Prior to joining the Competition Policy Division, Mr. Dever was a Supervisory Attorney Advisor in the Mass Media Bureau's Audio Services Division, applying the Commission's media ownership rules to broadcast licensees. Mr. Dever received his J. D. from the Catholic University of America and his B. A. in Journalism from Temple University's School of Communications and Theater. Jeremy Miller promoted to Assistant Chief of the Competition Policy Division. Mr. Miller has been an Attorney Advisor in the Competition Policy Division since March 2001. He has most recently served as Special Counsel to the Division and as Acting Assistant Chief. Mr. Miller has worked as a manager or team leader on section 271 applications, interconnection arbitrations, and local competition rulemaking proceedings. Mr. Miller came to the FCC from Hogan & Hartson LLP, where he specialized in telecommunications law. Before entering private practice, Mr. Miller clerked for the Honorable Charles R. Richey of the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Miller received his J. D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law, where he was an Associate Editor of the Michigan Law Review and his B.
