SMITH NAMED CHIEF OF CGB’S POLICY DIVISION; NANCY STEVENSON NAMED DEPUTY CHIEF Washington, DC – Richard D. Smith has been named chief of the Policy Division of the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau. Nancy Stevenson has been named deputy chief. Smith has been acting chief of that division since January 2003. He joined the Commission in 1996 as an attorney in what was then the Common Carrier Bureau. As chief of the Policy Division, he will be overseeing the bureau’s work on rulemakings and orders for which it has primary responsibility such as telemarketing and slamming, and by commenting on rulemakings and orders originated by other Bureaus and Offices to ensure that consumer interests are considered in all Commission policy- making activities. He received a B. S. in Business Administration at the University of Southern California and a J. D. at Pepperdine University. He and his wife, Laura, and daughter, Aleksandra, reside in Manassas, Virginia. Nancy Stevenson has been acting deputy chief of the Policy Division since January 2003. She joined the Commission in 1994 as an attorney in what was then the Cable Services Bureau. She joined CGB in 2002. She holds B. S. degrees in Psychology and Communication Arts and a J. D. degree, all from the University of Wisconsin. K. Dane Snowden, Chief of CGB, said “The bureau is very fortunate to have Richard and Nancy heading our very busy Policy Division.
