News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 October 26, 2004 INTERNATIONAL BUREAU AND OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCE UPCOMING MEETING FOR INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATION UNION ULTRAWIDEBAND TASK GROUP The FCC’s International Bureau (IB) and Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) announce the fifth international meeting of the International Telecommunication Union – Radiocommunication Sector (ITU- R) Task Group (TG) 1/ 8 on compatibility between Ultra-wideband (UWB) and radiocommunication services in San Diego, CA from May 18- 27, 2005. On September 8, 2004, the Director, ITU Radiocommunication Bureau released a letter accepting the invitation from the Chairman of the U. S. Organizing Committee to hold this meeting in San Diego. The official ITU- R UWB documents are available on the Internet at: http:// www. itu. int/ ITU- R/ study- groups/ rsg1/ rtg1- 8/ index. asp Government and industry are participating in the ITU- R TG 1/ 8 with the objective of developing international standards and recommendations to protect existing radiocommunication services, while exploiting the benefits of the technology for the international community. The San Diego meeting will include exhibits, demonstrations, hardware prototypes, and information presenting the business projections for the introduction of UWB technology in the United States.
