C.-- Today, the International Bureau reported to the Commission on the 2004 International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) and the next steps for the Commission resulting from the conference. The WTSA is held every four years to establish the objectives and work plan for the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU- T). The International Bureau led the FCC team within the U. S. delegation to the WTSA, which concluded on October 14, 2004 in Florianopolis, Brazil. The conference, among other things, adopted the work plan for the ITU- T over the next four years which focuses on communications, network security, and maintaining interoperability between current and next- generation networks. In addition, the WTSA addressed communications issues challenging countries around the world, including the transition from traditional communications networks to new technologies.
