 FCC  PROPOSES  $125,000  FORFEITURE  AGAINST  PILOT  TRAVEL  CENTERS  FOR  APPARENT  VIOLATION  OF 
 EQUIPMENT  AUTHORIZATION  RULES 
 Washington,  D.  C.:  The  Federal  Communications  Commission  today  issued  a  Notice  of  Apparent  Liability  for  Forfeiture  (NAL)  of  $125,000  against  Pilot  Travel  Centers,  L.  L.  C.  (“  Pilot”)  for  apparently 
 willfully  and  repeatedly  offering  for  sale  Citizens  Band  (“  CB”)  radio  transmitters  without  the  required  Commission  equipment  authorizations.  In  its  NAL,  the  Commission  reaffirmed  that  Amateur  Radio 
 Service  transmitters  that  can  be  easily  modified  to  operate  on  CB  frequency  bands  are  CB  radio  transmitters  and  therefore  subject  to  Commission  equipment  authorization  requirements. 


 In  response  to  complaints  that  Pilot  was  selling  non-  authorized  CB  transmitters  at  its  travel  centers,  the  Commission  initiated  an  investigation  and  issued  nine  Citations.  The  $125,000  proposed  forfeiture 
 amount  was  based  upon  the  company’s  sale  of  transmitters  on  thirteen  occasions  after  issuance  of  these  Citations.
