McMahon has been named acting Chief of Staff in the Commission’s Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB). In that capacity will coordinate the bureau’s activities and work with the bureau chief in setting the bureau’s agenda.. She succeeds June Taylor who has become acting chief of the FCC’s Office of Workplace Diversity. CGB chief K. Dane Snowden said, “June was the consummate chief of staff and set a very high bar. I look forward to working with her in her new role.” McMahon had been the associate chief of CGB’s Consumer Policy Division. She joined the Commission in December of 2001 as an attorney in the bureau’s Policy Division where she had primary responsibility for the Commission’s Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) proceedings. As associate chief of the Consumer Policy Division, she continued to oversee rulemakings and orders regarding the FCC’s telemarketing rules, including the do- not- call registry, CAN SPAM and privacy issues. Prior to joining the FCC, she was an attorney with the Federal Election Commission’s Enforcement Bureau and Information Division. Snowden said, “I look forward to having Erica’s expertise on the bureau’s senior management team. Both as a staff attorney and then as associate chief of our policy division, she has made tremendous contributions to the bureau and the Commission. Erica will continue a strong legacy of CGB chiefs of staff.” McMahon received a B. A. in political science at The College of William and Mary and an M. L. A. at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her J. D., cum laude, from George Mason University School of Law. She and her husband, Matt, and children, Sydney and Jack, live in Arlington, Virginia. - FCC - 1
