Chairman Powell said, “Since its inception, the Diversity Committee has used its expertise, resources and innovative thinking to look for new and creative solutions to advance and enhance employment and ownership opportunities for minorities and women. I am pleased that this talented and dedicated group of people, who have been unwavering in their commitment, wish to recharter the committee. I am also very pleased that Julia Johnson will continue to chair the committee – her knowledge and leadership have been invaluable.” The Diversity Committee’s members are experts in the communications, financial, and technology communities. They advise the FCC on policies and practices designed to increase diversity of ownership and create employment opportunities for women and minorities in the communications sector as well as other related sectors of the economy. The Diversity Committee also prepares periodic and final reports to aid the FCC in its oversight responsibilities and its regulatory reviews in this area. It has developed, among other things, a set of recommendations and best practices concerning guidelines, incentives and regulations or other policy approaches to promote diversity.
