In thanking Muleta for his service to the FCC, Chairman Michael Powell said: "John has once again made significant and lasting contributions to the FCC both as a manager and as a lawyer. John has been a faithful and tireless public servant and he is leaving behind a strong and commendable legacy in the wireless field that will have long and enduring impact on global communications. We all wish him well in his future endeavors." Muleta, who has been Chief of the FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau since February 2003, has a 20- year history in the communications sector working as an engineer, businessman and lawyer. Before his appointment as Bureau Chief, Mr. Muleta was President and CEO of Source 1 Technologies LLC, a privately held systems integration firm based in Washington, D. C. He was also a cofounder of OI Systems Inc., a Washington- based management consulting firm. He has also been associated with PSINet, Inc., where he held the positions of President of PSINet Ventures Inc., President of PSINet's Global Facilities Division, and President of PSINet’s India, Middle East and Africa Division.
