 CHAIRMAN  KEVIN  J.  MARTIN’S  ANNOUNCEMENT  REGARDING  APPROVAL  OF  THE  ALLTEL-  WESTERN  WIRELESS  LICENSE  TRANSFER  APPLICATIONS 
 Today,  the  Commission  has  approved,  with  conditions,  the  transfer  of  licenses  for  ALLTEL’s  acquisition  of  Western  Wireless.  This  action  will  ensure  that  consumers  continue  to 
 receive  the  benefits  of  competition,  such  as  lower  prices  and  higher  quality  service.  We  have  required  divestitures,  particularly  in  certain  rural  markets,  to  preserve  competition  where 
 consumers  have  fewer  choices  for  wireless  service.
