News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: June 29, 2007 Chelsea Fallon: (202) 418-7991 FCC RESCINDS ITS INTERIM PROCEDURES FOR ELECTRONIC FILING EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 25, 2007 Washington, D.C. – In an Order released June 20, 2007, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rescinded procedures that it adopted, on an interim basis, in November 2001 to permit the electronic filing of certain pleadings. The FCC’s interim filing procedures were adopted in November 2001 in response to emergency events in the Washington, D.C. area, namely the discovery of anthrax contamination on Capitol Hill and certain U.S. Postal Service processing facilities, which resulted in the disruption of regular mail delivery. The interim procedures required the filing of certain documents electronically via facsimile or e-mail, by an overnight delivery service other than the U.S. Postal Service, or by hand delivery to the FCC’s Capitol Heights, Maryland location. Since that time, mail delivery in the Washington, DC areas has improved, and the FCC has implemented its own processes to combat the threat of contamination of incoming mail. The FCC has also expanded its online filing capabilities, such as through the Universal Licensing System. Therefore, the FCC decided to rescind the interim procedures described above, effective September 25, 2007. After that date, filings will no longer be accepted by facsimile or e-mail unless otherwise authorized by the FCC’s rules. Action by the Commission on June 18, 2007 by Order (FCC 07-115). Chairman Martin and Commissioners Copps, Adelstein, Tate, and McDowell.
