COMMISSIONER JONATHAN ADELSTEIN’S STATEMENT ON 
FCC’S RURAL BROADBAND REPORT TO CONGRESS
Washington, D.C. – Today, the FCC released a report that was submitted to Congress on May 
22nd, 2009.  The following statement on the report, entitled “Bringing Broadband to Rural 
America: Report on a Rural Broadband Strategy”, can be attributed to Commissioner Jonathan S. 
Adelstein:
“I want to thank Chairman Copps for releasing this important report and for his 
commitment to broadband in rural America.  This isn’t a report that just talks about 
interagency coordination.  It has already served as a catalyst for encouraging greater 
discussion across the federal government that is unprecedented in my time on the 
Commission.  This Administration – from President Obama on down – has clearly begun 
to focus attention across the many agencies involved on the mission of promoting 
broadband to rural America.  It recognizes the benefits that can be gained not just by the 
technology sector, which is badly in need of a boost, but across the many issues facing 
rural areas, from health care, education, energy, agriculture and, above all, restoring 
economic growth.  This report represents a key step toward the national broadband plan 
Congress has charged the FCC with completing.”
