Washington, D.C. 20554 Re: Petition for Declaratory Ruling Regarding Public, Educational and Governmental ("PEG") Access Channels, MB Docket No. 09-13, CSR-8126, (ACM et al.) Dear Commissioners: I write to urge your expedited action iIi granting the above-referenced Petition, which details problems inherent in consigning local PEG channels to an, inferior format that is segregated from other channels on cable or video systems. Many nonprofit organizations and residents from the 5 th Congressional District use CAN TV to get out their message including The Irish American Heritage Center, A.B.A.T.E ofIllinois, American Indian Center, AJnerican Japanese Historical Society, and The Night Ministry, among others. Groups from my District attest to the value ofusing PEG channels to reach a broader audience. Children's Memorial Hospital notes the role CAN TV played in the recruitment phase for an inner city asthma study. Barrett Pederson; Mayor ofFranklin Park, produces "Illinois Issues in Review" with public officials and experts from throughout Chicagoland and notes the importance ofPEG channels in encouraging greater civic engagement. Shaun Ho received training at CAN TV in Chicago 8 years ago and has since produced 30 programs covering youth performers at Chinese Fine Arts Society. Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) uses CAN TV tQadvertiseits Careers in M3J.iufacturing Program, Women in Manufacturingp~ograrll'andits Manufacturing Bridge Program that helps get unemployed and dislocated workers back to work. QUIGLEY.HoUSE-Gov - ...-."""~=''"l(B>-·"t,'i~>,l1'w _ INK Northeastern Illinois University used CAN TV to infonn viewers about educational support services and noted that the viewing was wide spread to prospective students, their parents and educational stakeholders. I stand solidly in support ofPEG channels being given equivalent treatment on any cable or video system. Assuring that local residents are able to receive infonnation that they need is a high priority. Please act decisively to stop any practices that unfairly discriminate against PEG channels. I strongly urge the Commission to grant this Petition. Sincerely, ,·11
