Miller, Deputy Secretary of Education. At the event, the Chairman will launch the FCC online privacy and security webpages, which are part of the FCC’s effort to educate consumers during October, which is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Chairman Genachowski said, “When people fear that new technologies put their privacy at risk, they are less likely to use those technologies. To fulfill the promise of broadband for our children, parents need to feel confident that their children are safe online and that their personal information is protected.” The FCC new online privacy and security webpages can be accessed at: http://fcc.gov/consumers. The webpages provide useful and timely information for consumers and small businesses regarding online safety. During the month of October, the FCC will roll-out a video on wi-fi security narrated by Yul Kwon, winner of the television show Survivor, as well as consumer guides sheets, screencasts and blog postings addressing several topics, including: · Protecting Children in the Digital Age · Securing Wireless Networks · Safe Internet Navigation and Transactions · Tips for Infected Computers or Networks · Best Practices for Small Business Cybersecurity · Tips for Using the Internet Abroad Important consumer information will be provided on the FCC’s new online privacy and security webpage, http://fcc.gov/consumers, in addition to links to other sources of information regarding online security and privacy.
