HENNING SCHULZRINNE TO THE COMMISSION Washington, D.C. – Jamie Barnett, Chief of the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) today announced that Henning Schulzrinne, Ph.D., has joined the Commission as a distinguished Engineering Fellow. Dr. Schulzrinne will provide leadership and valuable insight working collaboratively on important technical issues related to cybersecurity, public alerts and warnings, 9-1-1 services and public safety broadband communications. Chief Barnett said, “It is an honor and a privilege to have Dr. Schulzrinne join our FCC team. He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to the commission and we look forward to working with him as we move forward on a number of complex public safety-related initiatives and issues. His guidance on the technical aspects of these issues will serve us well.” Dr. Schulzrinne most recently served as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and as a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University, New York. He holds the distinction as a Julian Clarence Levi Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University. Among the many prestigious positions he’s held over the years, Dr. Schulzrinne served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society, as chair of the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committees on Computer Communications and the Internet, member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), and as technical program chair of a number of conferences. He continues to serve on a number of conference and journal steering committees, including for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and ACM SIGCOMM. Dr. Schulzrinne, who has published more than 200 journal and conference papers during his professional and academic career, earned his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts.
