FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: October 28, 2010 John Giusti at (202) 418-2000 STATEMENT BY COMMISSIONER MICHAEL J. COPPS ON THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THE FCC ENFORCEMENT BUREAU AND VERIZON WIRELESS HAVE ENTERED INTO A CONSENT DECREE “This agreement is a victory for wireless consumers—made possible by an FCC that is taking its charge as a consumer protection agency seriously. It's about more than refunds to consumers who were wrongly over-charged and a historic payment by Verizon to the Treasury. It's also about making sure this never happens again with Verizon putting in place new procedures to provide additional consumer protections and better customer service. I'll be watching, as will thousands of consumers, to make sure that the promises of this consent decree are truly realized.” - FCC -
