PanAmSat Licensee Corp. has filed a request, in a "Petition for Specific Authority under Section 25.161(c)," to retain authority to operate in the 11.7-12.2 GHz, and 14.0-14.5 GHz frequency bands at the nominal 43° W.L. orbital location. PanAmSat previously operated the Intelsat 3R space station at this location using these Ku-band frequencies, but moved Intelsat 3R out of this orbital location in August 2010. In its filing, PanAmSat states that it intends to relocate the Intelsat 9 space station to the nominal 43° W.L. orbital location in fall 2012, when Intelsat, an affiliated company, launches the Intelsat 21 space station into the orbital location at which Intelsat 9 is currently operating.
