FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT January 10, 2011 Dan Rumelt, 202-418-7512 Dan.Rumelt@fcc.gov YUL KWON LEAVES THE FCC Washington, DC – Yul Kwon, Deputy Chief of the FCC’s Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, has announced that he is leaving the FCC to become the host of a new television series, America Revealed, which will air on PBS this fall. Since joining the FCC in 2009, Mr. Kwon was a key player in major FCC initiatives involving the National Broadband Plan, consumer protection and education, child online safety, childhood obesity, distracted driving, and wireless network security. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said, “The FCC has benefitted tremendously from Yul’s energy, warmth, and wide range of knowledge and skills. We wish him well in his future endeavors.” Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau Chief Joel Gurin said, “Yul is a remarkable individual and his contributions here at the FCC will have a lasting impact. He will be sorely missed.” Mr. Kwon’s diverse career spans across law, technology, business, and media. His government experience includes lecturing at the FBI Academy, serving as an aide to Senator Joseph Lieberman, and clerking for Judge Barrington D. Parker on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. In the business and technology sector, Mr. Kwon has held positions at McKinsey & Company, Google, and the Trium Group. He also practiced law as an attorney at Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis and at Venture Law Group. In 2006, Mr. Kwon became the first Asian American to win the CBS reality show, Survivor. His subsequent media activities include working as a special correspondent for CNN and as a co-host for the Discovery Channel. Mr. Kwon obtained his B.S. degree in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University and his J.D. from Yale Law School. “It has been a deeply rewarding experience serving at the FCC.” Kwon said. “I thank Chairman Genachowski for the opportunity to be a part of the FCC team.
