It is also my understanding that both the Department ofJustice and the Federal Trade Commission have approved the merger. The companies contend that upon completion ofthe transaction, the merged company will become a national, industry-leading communications company which will be able to offer innovative broadbandproducts and services over its advanced networks. Specifically, the companies assert thatthe merger would create a national 180,000 route mile fiber network, which would enable delivery ofa diverse mix oftelecommunications offerings nationwide. I write not to advocate a certain outcome, but rather to ask that the FCC give the matter the prompt attention it deserves. Ofcourse, I do not expect any action to be taken in this matter that would be inconsistent with existing rules and regulations, or that could be construed as inappropriate or unfair. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, ~~- JONKYL United States Senator Cc: Michael J. Copps Robert M.
