FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT March 14, 2012 Neil Grace, (202) 418-0506 neil.grace@fcc.gov FCC CHAIRMAN JULIUS GENACHOWSKI ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE OF AMY LEVINE, SENIOR COUNSEL AND LEGAL ADVISOR; CHARLES MATHIAS TO SERVE AS ACTING LEGAL ADVISOR (Washington, D.C.) – FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced today that Amy Levine will be departing the Commission to relocate from the Washington, D.C. area and leaving her role as Senior Counsel & Legal Advisor to the Chairman. Charles Mathias will be detailed from his current role in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau on an interim basis to serve as Acting Legal Advisor upon Ms. Levine’s departure. FCC Chairman Genachowski said, “Amy brought to my office a rare combination of legislative expertise, policy know-how, and consensus-building. Among Amy’s accomplishments was her tireless dedication to working with Congress to see the historic incentive auctions legislation through its recent signing into law. It goes without saying that we’ll miss Amy deeply, and I am sure she will continue to deliver the same expert counsel and commitment that she brought to the Commission in the next stage of her career. I congratulate Amy and wish her the very best.” He continued, “I am delighted that Charles has agreed to temporarily support our office upon Amy’s departure. I am confident that his expertise and experience will serve us well to help drive economic growth and opportunity behalf of all Americans.” Staff Bios Amy Levine is Senior Counsel and Legal Advisor to the Chairman. Ms. Levine has responsibility for the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, and Office of Engineering and Technology. Her work includes supervising the agency’s spectrum policy and providing technical advice to Congress; managing wireless transaction reviews, including the proposed AT&T/T- Mobile and AT&T/Qualcomm transactions; and promoting the creation of a nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network and deployment of E911 and NG911 technologies. Ms. Levine previously served as principal communications policy advisor to Congressman Rick Boucher, former Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet, and Congressman John Dingell, former Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, in the U.S. House of Representatives. Previously, she was Legislative Counsel to Senator Claire McCaskill and practiced law at Covington & Burling in the firm’s communications and media law group. Ms. Levine clerked for Chief Judge Jerry Buchmeyer in the Northern District of Texas. 2 Charles Mathias is Associate Bureau Chief in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. He has led various Bureau initiatives in the areas of spectrum management, technology, and innovation and was a member of the bureau team that reviewed the AT&T- T-Mobile transaction. Previously, he was Senior Legal Advisor to Former FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker, where, in addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the Commissioner’s office, he was responsible for wireless, international, satellite, and public safety issues. Before that, Mr. Mathias served in a variety of roles in the Wireless Bureau and acting Public Safety and International advisor to former FCC Chairman Kevin Martin. Prior to joining the FCC, he held senior positions at Lucent Technologies where he managed both the Washington and EMEA regulatory affairs offices, and at Bechtel. Previously, in private practice, he counseled companies and individuals in the information and communications technologies sector.
