MICHAEL G. GRIMM 11 TH DISTRICT, NEW YORK COMMITIEE ON FINANCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANT WHIP August 8, 2013 The Honorable Mignon Clyburn Acting Chairwoman Federal Communications Commission 445 lih Street SW Washington, DC 20554 Dear Madam Chairwoman, 512 CANNON HOUSE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON, DC 20515 (202) 225-3371 265 NEW DORP LANE, 2ND FLOOR STATEN ISLAND, NY 10306 (718) 351-1062 7308 13TH AVENUE BROOKLYN, NY 11228 (7181630-5277 As a Representative of the 11 th District ofNew York, which contains Staten Island and Southwest Brooklyn, I am very hopeful that CBS and Time Warner Cable (TWC) can resolve their retransmission content dispute as soon as possible. While I would like to stay neutral in these types of commercial contract disputes - and to the best of my knowledge I know both parties have acted in good faith on behalf of their subscribers and viewers - I am concerned by the recent action of CBS to block TWC broadband subscribers from accessing its programs online. While I appreciate the complicated nature of the commercial dispute between CBS and TWC for over-the-air viewing, I am deeply concerned that withholding Internet content by CBS is just a maneuver to advance its negotiating position. The households in my Congressional District who use TWC broadband, whether or not they also use TWC for their cable service, are denied access to CBS content on the Internet. For the sake of my constituents who are TWC broadband subscribers, I hope both parties are able to resolve their current impasse as the only people who lose in this situation are innocent consumers. I strongly urge both parties to negotiate in good faith and resolve this situation quickly. Please do not hesitate to contact me at my Washington, DC office if you have any questions. Thank you.
