Hon Tom Wheeler Chairman Federal Communications Commission 445 12th Street, S.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 Dear Mr. Wheeler: February 26, 2014 /7b VIA FAX COMMITIEE ON THE JUDICIARY CHAIRMAN COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE VICE CHA!RM.t.N SUBCOMMmEE ON LIVESTOCK, RURAL DEVELOPMENT, AND CREDIT SUBCOMMITTEE ON DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS, 0\I'ER$\GHT, AND NUTRITION DEPUTY WHIP I am delighted to write to you on behalf of BARC Electric Cooperative (BAR C) and its Fiber-to-the-Premises (FFTx) broadband deployment project. I wholeheartedly support BARC's effort as a part of the Federal Communication Commission's experiments to continue America's movement toward transforming its telecommunications infrastructure. BARC is in the best position to bring high speed Internet service to its service territory. BARC is a non-profit operation that owns and controls its rights-of-way, making the cooperative uniquely qualified to effectively and efficiently deliver FFTx to its customer-owners. BARC's service territory-- the counties of Alleghany, Augusta, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge --is aniong the Commonwealth of Virginia's most underserved regions when it comes to high speed Internet service. The FFTx project would spur commercial economic development; connect schools, government offices, and hospitals; and provide the backhaul necessary for cellular phone carriers to deploy additional towers to a region in desperate need of better cell service. The rural communities served by BARC would see immediate and tangible benefits. I fully support BARC's FFTx broadband deployment project. I ask the FCC to give full and favorable consideration to approving the project for the benefit of my constituents in the rural parts of Virginia's Sixth District served by BARC.
