In light of proposed telecommunication mergers, I write to highlight the Federal 
Communications Commission's (FCC) commitment to ensure access to telecommunication 
services in rural South Carolina. 
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 codified Congress' commitment to providing 
universal telecommunications and information services to all regions of the nation. Furthermore, 
FCC's National Broadband Plan maintains that the lack of adequate broadband availability is 
most pressing in rural America. 
As telecommunication mergers are considered, I will follow the potential impacts on 
rural South Carolina citizens and their ability to access telecommunication services.
