CARL LEVIN MICHIGAN 'Rnitcd ~mtcs ~cnetc The llonorablc Tom Wheeler Chairman l'cdcral Communications Commission 445 Twelfth Street, SW Washington. DC 20554 Dear Chai rman Wheeler: WASHINGTON, DC 20510-2202 August 22, 20 I 4 As the l'ederal Communications Commission considers how to revise its rules for an open Internet in response to the January 20 14 ruling of thc United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, I wri te in strong support of net neutrality rules that guarantee an open and free Internet. It wou ld appear that the reclassification of broadband Internet access services as a Title II telecommunications service is the best and clearest way to ensure an open and free Internet. But. however you chose to get there, the important thing is that the I'CC does get there. We must continue 10 have rules that protect the Internet from becoming a tiered system favoring some over others. as such an outcome would stine innovation. I encourage you to adopt rules that will clearl y retain an open and free Internet that our people have come to rely on. Carl Levin PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER 891
