Like many others across the country, Commissioner Pai began working on this issue one year ago, in the wake of the tragic death of Kari Rene Hunt Dunn in a Marshall, Texas hotel room. On that day, the phone system failed Kari and her family. While her nine-year old daughter tried to get emergency assistance by dialing 911—four times—the call for help never went through because the hotel’s phone system required guests to first dial 9 to get an outside line. At the event, Commissioner Pai will report on the progress being made to fix this problem. Additional speakers will be: ? The Honorable Louie Gohmert, who represents the First Congressional District of Texas (including Marshall) ? Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa, Chief of Police, Marshall, Texas ? Hank Hunt, Father of Kari Rene Hunt Dunn “I am honored to participate in this event with Kari’s father, Hunk Hunt, as well as Congressman Gohmert and Police Chief Campa,” Commissioner Pai said. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of many people around the country, we’re making progress on ensuring that dialing 911 always works.” The event will begin at 10:00 AM at the headquarters of the Marshall Police Department, which is located at 2101 E. End Blvd. North, Marshall, TX 75670. The hashtag for the event will be #MLTS. 1 FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai to Deliver One-Year Progress Report on Connecting Americans to Emergency Personnel Whenever They Dial 911 (Jan. 12, 2015), go.usa.gov/zcRx.
