Media Contact: Will Wiquist, (202) 418-0509 will.wiquist@fcc.gov For Immediate Release FCC GENERAL COUNSEL ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES -- WASHINGTON, June 1, 2016 – FCC General Counsel Jonathan Sallet announced today his selection of Jennifer Tatel as deputy general counsel, with responsibility for administrative law issues. Ms. Tatel currently serves as chief of staff in the Office of General Counsel and will continue in that position, in addition to her new role. “Jennifer is extraordinarily qualified to oversee the FCC’s administrative law work,” said General Counsel Sallet. “She is skilled as a lawyer, experienced as a manager and focused on how the Office of General Counsel can best serve the Commission. We are fortunate to have her in this new position.” Mr. Sallet also named John Williams as senior counselor to the general counsel, enlarging his role in the office. Mr. Williams has served as a senior legal advisor in the office since 2015. “John is a savvy, insightful lawyer who has taken on challenging assignments in the Office of General Counsel and who will provide invaluable assistance in his new, expanded, role,” said Sallet. The FCC’s Office of General Counsel serves as the principal legal advisory office to the Commission as a whole. Attorneys in the office represent the Commission in litigation, recommend decisions in adjudicatory matters, assist the Commission in its decision-making capacity and perform a variety of legal functions regarding internal and other administrative matters. Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Ms. Tatel was legal advisor for media and consumer issues to Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker and chief of the Media Bureau's Industry Analysis Division. Before joining the FCC, she was an attorney in private practice and worked as a social worker. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois, her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University, and her law degree from George Washington University Law School. Before working at the Commission, Mr. Williams was general counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation under then-Chairman John D. Rockefeller IV.
