Media Contact: Jamie Susskind, (202) 418-2200 Jamie.Susskind@fcc.gov For Immediate Release STATEMENT OF COMMISSIONER BRENDAN CARR On New Staff Appointment WASHINGTON, December 4, 2017— Today, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr announced that Evan Swarztrauber has joined his office as Policy Advisor for media issues. “I am delighted that Evan has agreed to join my office,” said Commissioner Carr. “Evan has a keen instinct for communications policy, having worked on a broad range of technology and telecom issues—from broadcasting to broadband deployment. I look forward to drawing on his expertise as we continue to advance policies that will create jobs, spur investment, and grow the economy for the benefit of all Americans.” Evan joins Commissioner Carr’s office from TechFreedom, where he was Director of Public Affairs. In that role, Evan worked on a wide range of issues, including media ownership, video competition, and the broadcast incentive auction. He also managed the organization’s communications and outreach teams, and represented the organization in a diverse array of coalitions. Additionally, he co- founded and hosted the Tech Policy Podcast since its launch in January 2016, and has written articles and conducted interviews on a variety of tech policy matters. Prior to his work at TechFreedom, Evan served as a communications staffer in the New York State Assembly, and he worked on a variety of political campaigns in New York City. Evan received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University. Commissioner Carr also announced that Kevin Holmes, who has been serving as Acting Legal Advisor for wireless, public safety, and international issues, will be rejoining the Office of Legislative Affairs. “Kevin has been an invaluable member of my team, and I am grateful that he agreed to serve in my office for the past few months. With his help, we were able to hit the ground running and make immediate progress on my priorities, including taking initial steps to streamline the deployment of wireless infrastructure. I am glad the Commission will continue to benefit from Kevin’s public service.” Nirali Patel, who has been serving as Acting Legal Advisor for media, consumer protection, and enforcement issues, will remain detailed from the Wireline Competition Bureau on an interim basis.
