Specifically, I have concerns about AT&T and DirecTV's removal of Television Dominicana from its program lineup and the implications that this could have in ensuring that diversity in programming and entertainment remain a priority in media markets. It is the responsibility of the Federal Communications Commission to ensure fairness and openness in media markets to all individuals and to promote diversity, especially as the Latino community becomes an increasingly larger presence in our country. The United States and Puerto Rico is home to nearly 3 million Dominican people. Television Dominicana serves as AT&T and DirecTV's immediate line for news and cultural programming for these individuals. This program serves as an important pipeline for Dominican immigrant communities, keeping them connected to information back in their home country as well as helping connect and assimilate into their new communities. Television Dominicana should have served as a primary resource for Dominican Americans during Hurricane Irma however, the channel was pulled just four days prior to the storm slamming into the island. This left individuals on and off the island desperately seeking information regarding the safety of their native communities and the status of their families. This was just one of the many implications of removing Television Dominicana from AT&T and DirecTV's programming. It is vital to ensure that immigrants within our country are fairly represented and that their voices are being heard. As the Federal Communications Commission reviews its analysis of this merger, I ask that it push for diversity and inclusion within its television programming. Thank you for your attention to this issue. Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide. Sincerely, ~ Sean Patrick Maloney Member of Congress PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER 869
