OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION WASHINGTON January 19, 2018 The Honorable Carlos Curbelo U.S. House of Representatives 1404 Longworth House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515 Dear Congressman Curbelo: Thank you for your request for assistance to restore internet services to the residents of Monroe County. First and foremost, I commend the residents, first responders, and the public safety community for their heroic efforts during Hurricane Irma to help their fellow Americans. It was inspiring to meet with several first responders and citizens impacted by the hurricane during my visit to Florida. As you may know, my highest priority as Chairman of the FCC is to ensure that every American who wants high-speed Internet access can get it. I agree with you that restoration of internet service to the businesses and residents of Monroe County is vital to their recovery. The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau ("Bureau") which leads the disaster response and recovery efforts for the FCC, has reached out to service providers in Monroe County. The service providers reported that as soon as access was granted to the impacted areas, they made concerted efforts to deploy construction, maintenance, and tecimical operations teams. The service providers have assured the Bureau that internet services impacted by Hurricane Irma have been restored and that no residual outages remain. Going forward, the FCC and the Bureau will continue to monitor restoration efforts and stand ready to assist as necessary. I appreciate your request for support in this matter. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. I AA bJ I I I)
