tinitrd ~tatrs ~rnatr December 7, 2017 The Honorable Ajit V. Pai Federal Communications Commission 445 1211i St. SW Washington, DC 20554 Dear Chairman Pai: WASHINGTON. DC 20510 We write today to ask the Commission to consider permitting the use of 5G mobile broadband service for existing Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service (MVDDS) spectrum licensees in the 12.2-12.7 GHZ range. The Commission has worked diligently to explore new opportunities for spectrum that could be used to advance 5G mobile service and we appreciate those ongoing efforts. Additionally, U.S. wireless companies have invested billions to keep our country at the forefront of the global 5G race. As our global competitors increase their investments in building 5G networks, particularly in Asia, U.S. commitment to deploying and expanding 5G service should remain a central focus at the Commission. U.S. leadership in mobile technology has significantly benefitted American consumers for decades and our country must continue driving that innovation. We believe the Commission has an opportunity to build on their 5G efforts by considering the benefits of 5G mobile broadband use in the spectrum between 12.2-12.7GHz while also working to resolve any incumbents' interference concerns. As the U.S. continues to explore new ways forward for 5G service, we look forward to monitoring the Commission's progress on these issues. Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to reach out to our offices with any questions. Sincerely, cc: Commissioner Michael O'Rielly Commissioner Brendan Carr Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel Commissioner Mignon Clyburn Michael F. Bennet U.S. Senator 1049
