FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION WASHINGTON OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN February 4, 2020 The Honorable John N. Kennedy United States Senate 416 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator Kennedy: Thank you for your letter regarding the Commission s work to reallocate C-band spectrum for flexible terrestrial use and assign that spectrum through a public auction. As we move forward, we will endeavor to keep members and staff of the Senate and House Appropriations and Commerce Committees apprised of our progress in a timely matter. For example, on January 22, our team had the opportunity to discuss with your staffer, John Steitz, various issues involved in the C-band proceeding. As you know, in November 2019, I announced my support for the Commission to conduct a public auction of 280 MHz of the C-band spectrum. I appreciate your support for this decision. In order for this public auction to commence before the year s end, I intend to circulate this week to my colleagues a draft C-band Order as well as an Auction Frocedttres Comment Public Notice, and will ask my fellow Commissioners to consider and vote on these items at the Commission s upcoming Open Meeting on February 28. Each item represents a critical procedural step toward a 2020 auction, and ultimately toward the repurposing the C-band spectrum so that it can be used to provide next-generation wireless services to the American people. I appreciate your interest in this matter. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Sincerely,-: v jt V. Pai
