FEDERAL COMM U N IC ATIO NS COMMIS SI O N WASHINGTON O FFI CE O F March 18, 2020 T H E CHAIR MAN The Honorable Sam Graves U.S. House of Representatives 1135 Longworth House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Dear Congressman Graves: Thank you for your letter concerning the Commission's 5.9 GHz proceeding and its potential impact on vehicular safety. We all share a desire to ensure Americans have ubiquitous access to vehicular safety options-and many safety technologies are the direct result of the FCC's allocation of commercial spectrum for this purpose. At the same time, it is important to keep pace with technology so that we can identify and deploy underused spectrum and repurpose it as appropriate to support a broad range of consumer and safety innovations. That is why on December 13, 2019, a unanimous Commission voted to take a fresh look at the 5.9 GHz spectrum band with a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that recognized and discussed several matters raised in your letter. The record is still open in this proceeding until April 6. I have encouraged all stakeholders to submit their views in the record, in order to help inform the Commission. Once the record has closed, we will make a judgment about how to proceed based on the submissions we have received. Thank you for your letter. Please let me know ifl can be of further assistance. v.
