254 April 27, 2021 The Honorable Jessica Rosenworcel Acting Chairwoman Federal Communication Commission 445 12th Street NW Washington, DC 20301 Dear Acting Chairwoman Rosenworcel, We are writing to express concerns regarding the recent acquisition of Miami radio station Caracol 1260 AM by America CV, and subsequent actions by their new ownership1 which raise questions about whether the station accurately reflects the Spanish-language listeners in its community of license and is operating in the public interest. As you are aware, Congress has spent a significant amount of time examining issues around disinformation in the media and its impact on Americans. As Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, we are especially attuned to the impact that Spanish-language media has on our constituents across the country, and the potential ways in which Spanish-language listeners may be targets for political and other misinformation. Some of our members wrote to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) last Fall expressing concerns about the targeting of Latino communities in South Florida through disinformation campaigns in the leadup to the 2020 elections.2 Disinformation and misinformation -- whether by domestic or foreign actors -- are some of the greatest threats our democracy faces and we must be vigilant in ensuring that trusted media sources of news and information are not subject to corruption. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from you.
