Simington Addresses Silicon Flatirons Conference

WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 10, 2021—Today, FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington provided a keynote address at the University of Colorado’s Silicon Flatirons “Frontiers in Spectrum Sharing” conference.  In his remarks, Commissioner Simington examined various models for solving the problem of crowded spectrum: discussing both specific bands and challenges, as well as general concepts of spectrum sharing in current and proposed spectrum sharing regimes.

Commissioner Simington noted:

“Spectrum congestion for 5G mid-band is often in the news, but as important an issue as this undeniably is, it is just one example of the new demands on spectrum… And I hope you'll indulge me if I return now and then to land sharing as an extended metaphor, because spectrum is like land—they just aren't making any more of it.”
