Media Contact: Anne Veigle anne.veigle@fcc.gov For Immediate Release FCC ANNOUNCES OVER $244 MILLION IN EMERGENCY CONNECTIVITY FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES TO HELP CLOSE THE HOMEWORK GAP Over $5.1 Billion in Program Funding to Date Will Support 12.7 Million Students Across the Country -- WASHINGTON, June 9, 2022—The Federal Communications Commission today announced that it is committing over $244 million in Emergency Connectivity Fund program support, helping to close the Homework Gap. The funding supports applications from the program’s third filing window which ran from April 28, 2022 until May 13, 2022, and will provide support in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year for 259 schools, 24 libraries, and 1 consortium across the country, including for students in California, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, New York, and Virginia. The Commission also announced $18 million in funding from two previous application windows, bringing the total funding committed to date to $5.1 billion. “I’m pleased to announce two new rounds of funding in our ongoing work to help get students the broadband access they need to get online and keep up with schoolwork,” said Chairwoman Rosenworcel. “The demand for this program shows how important it is to connect students all over the country. While there is more work to do, we are making steady progress closing the Homework Gap.” The funding can be used to support off-campus learning, such as nightly homework, to ensure students across the country have the necessary support to keep up with their education. To date, the program has helped over 12.7 million students, supporting approximately 10,000 schools, 900 libraries, and 100 consortia, and providing over 11 million connected devices and 5 million broadband connections. Of the $5.1 billion funding commitments approved to date, $4.1 billion is supporting applications from Window 1, $818 million from Window 2; and $244 million from Window 3.
