On April 1, 2002, the Wireline Competition Bureau (the Bureau) released an order that suspended for five months and set for investigation BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc. (BellSouth) Tariff FCC No. 1, Transmittal No. 623 and Qwest Corporation (Qwest) Tariff FCC No. 1, Transmittal No. 120. 1 Similarly, on April 18, 2002, the Bureau released an order that suspended for five months and set for investigation Sprint Local Telephone Companies (Sprint) Tariff FCC No. 3, Transmittal No. 192. 2 These transmittals sought to establish rate increases, over a two- year period, to recover extraordinary costs associated with the implementation of thousands- block number pooling. 1 BellSouth Tariff FCC No. 1 Transmittal No. 623, Qwest Tariff FCC no. 1 Transmittal No. 120, WCB/ Pricing No. 02- 08, Order, DA 02- 747 (released April 1, 2002) (BellSouth/ Qwest Suspension Order). 2 Sprint Local Telephone Companies Tariff FCC No. 3 Transmittal No. 192, WCB/ Pricing No. 02- 10, DA 02- 898 (released April 18, 2002) (Sprint Suspension Order). 1 Federal Communications Commission FCC 02- 237 2 2. BellSouth withdrew its Transmittal No. 623 on May 21, 2002. 3 Sprint withdrew its Transmittal No. 192 on May 15, 2002. 4 These withdrawals rendered moot the investigations of the Sprint and the BellSouth tariffs. Accordingly, we terminate the investigations of those tariffs. 3. On May 23, 2002, the Bureau released an Order Designating Issues for Investigation (Designation Order) addressing the Qwest transmittal. 5 Qwest filed its direct case on June 10, 2002. 6 On July 3, 2002, Qwest withdrew its Transmittal No. 120. 7 Qwest’s withdrawal of its transmittal rendered moot the investigation. Therefore, we also terminate the investigation of Qwest’s transmittal. 4. ACCORDINGLY, IT IS ORDERED that, pursuant to section 204 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U. S. C. § 204, the investigation of BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc. Tariff FCC No. 1, Transmittal No. 623, and Qwest Corporation Tariff FCC No. 1, Transmittal No. 120, imposed in WCB/ Pricing File No. 02- 08, IS TERMINATED. 5. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that, pursuant to section 204 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U. S. C. § 204, the investigation of Sprint Local Telephone Companies Tariff FCC No. 3, Transmittal No. 192 imposed in WCB/ Pricing File No. 02- 10, IS TERMINATED.
