Pursuant to sections 254( a)( 1) and 410 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (the Act), 1 the Commission appoints the Honorable Deborah Taylor Tate, Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, to serve on the Federal- State Joint Board on Universal Service (Universal Service Joint Board) and the Federal- State Joint Board on Jurisdictional Separations (Separations Joint Board). Commissioner Tate shall also serve as the Federal Chair of both the Universal Service Joint Board and the Separations Joint Board. These appointments fill the positions vacated by the Honorable Kathleen Abernathy, former Commissioner, and the Honorable Michael Powell, former Commission Chairman, respectively. The Commission gratefully acknowledges the contributions of these members to the work of the Universal Service Joint Board and the Separations Joint Board. 2.
